The best nonstick cookware set is necessary for any cook’s kitchen, from the most experienced to the most beginners. It’s almost difficult to make eggs without one, they make pan-searing fish a lot smoother, and they save pancakes from tearing apart in the pan.
Even the nonstick pans get a bad name, but the nonstick cookware is healthy as long as the parts made of Teflon are not overheated to temperatures above 500oF. They’ve come a long way since they first came out, and others are working much like stainless, with no staining and no rough washing. We checked all sorts of nonstick pans to decide the best ones on the market.
At the Home Design for Kitchen Appliances and Technology Lab, we had 165 eggs fried, 50 steaks fried, and more than 35 new cookware lines fried. We measured how uniformly the stews dispersed heat to the gas and electric ranges, how well the meat was browned, and how well the saucepans held a constant boil and avoided scorching sauce. We tested how well the nonstick surfaces released eggs and pancakes and how easy they were to clean. Finally, we tested how easy it was to use all cookware pieces, including whether the handles were hot to touch and whether each piece was oven-and/or dishwasher-safe.
Our favourite nonstick pans were the ones that could do it all from frying an egg with no oil to stitching a steak to throwing it in the dishwasher. Below are our favourite nonstick pans, including top-tested choices, favourite editors, and new releases with creative features that make cooking simple. Here are our choices for 2021’s best nonstick pans.
Signature Best Nonstick Cookware Set
Our pick
Teflon-free best nonstick cookware set covering on T pots and pans makes them dumb when it comes to turning out crepes, frittatas, and other sticky foods. Their handles remain cool to the touch, so they’re comfortable to use for extra power while cooking with a finger grip. They are lightweight and can be used in low to medium heat; the thermo-heat indicator lets you know when it’s ready to use.
In our experiments, scrambled eggs and pancakes were fried uniformly with zero stickings. Plus, the griddle was a pleasant addition to breakfast products particularly bacon. If you’re washing your hand or using a dishwasher, these bits are beautifully washed due to their dark nonstick finish inside and outside.
12-Piece Hard-Anodized Best Nonstick Cookware Set
Our pick
In previous experiments, we were very impressed by Anolon’s ability to spread heat equally, sustain a steady simmer, and make scrambled eggs without oil. We also liked how their silicone-covered stainless steel handles were kept cold while cooking. When we tested the Anolon 82693 Advanced Hard-Anodized Best Nonstick Cookware Set Package, the set was changed a little to include revised shapes—a small saucepan with a pour beaker is a favourite!
We continue to like how the handles sound in our hands and how convenient it is for pots and pans to pass about. We really like a large sauteé pan with rounded corners, which offers a lot of browning surface and allows a nice pot for simmering. The collection is free of Teflon.
Swiss Diamond Reinforced #6010 – Best Nonstick Cookware Set
Our pick
The 10-piece Swiss Diamond is one of the most costly collections of our evaluations. What are you going to get for a high price? The nonstick coating proves to be one of the most robust in our rugged nonstick toughness test—Swiss Diamond withstood all 2,000 steel wool strokes. And its handles are among the best of all nonstick sets in CR research.
Simmering a sauce yields excellent results, and this package has a very good ranking for cooking evenness. The 8.5-quarter stockpot is a generous scale, and the glass lids of the package help you to keep an eye on what you’re preparing.
Zwilling J.A. Henckels Motion Grey
Our pick
Zwilling is known for its knives for a long time, but this best nonstick cookware set is a cut beyond. The 10-piece Zwilling J.A. Henckels Motion Gray is made of anodized aluminum and fits for every form of range. Sold exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond the set has a very good ranking in our nonstick food release checks, which means that food slips off marginally quickly while the nonstick surface is fresh.
So take note of the nonstick coating—no metal utensils or abrasives. This cookware is branded as a safe-to-use dishwasher, but the manual states that hand-washing is recommended to keep it looking fine.
All-Clad Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 10-Piece Set
Our pick
The All-Clad Stainless 10-Piece Package is recommended for a superior quality best nonstick cookware set that will last a lifetime. The experts we spoke to said that All-Clad tri-ply cookware is the best for both home and commercial use because it’s so robust. In our checks, the All-Clad pans were uniformly cooked, easy to wear, and handled any cooking job without any hiccups.
While the largest skillet measures just 10 inches instead of 12, this package will equip your kitchen with all the other pots and pans you’re likely to need. And if you’re part of keeping your cookware bright and polished, please remember that in our checks, this package was one of the few that looked new after washing.
Cuisinart 55-11BK Advantage 11-Piece Best Nonstick Cookware Set
Aluminum cookware is crazily affordable—and it just seems to perform very well. It is a fine heat conductor (the material is also used in the heart of stainless steel cookware) and is solid and lightweight.
Many people perceive aluminum to be an economical alternative to stainless steel, but this is not without a few trade-offs. It’s not going to work on induction tops, because it appears to warp with high heat. It can also have a weak response to acidic foods, but all of these problems are resolved in anodized aluminum, which has been treated with a hardening agent. Yeah, anodized is more costly, but it works a lot faster.
We like this Cuisinart package because of its cool-touch handles, its non-stick finish, and the fact that it can be in the dishwasher. Flip the golden pancakes in the frying pan or boil the stockpot broth.
GreenPan Food52 x GreenPan 8-Piece Best Nonstick Cookware Set
Our pick
Ceramic has been a very common material for the best nonstick cookware set in recent years. This high-tech material is all-natural—usually made of sand—and is the most environmentally conscious of the lot. It is nonstick, but the coating is made of a polymer called Thermolon, which does not require the use of any highly harmful chemicals.
Ceramic absorbs heat equally, is easy to disinfect, and is very cheap, so it crops up in lots of stores. Remember that it can chip quickly and won’t fit well with super high sun.
This set is made by GreenPan, the OG of ceramic cookware—we love this new edition that comes in a stunning shade of blue with chic golden handles. In addition to the chili, the saucepan, the sauté, and the casserole, there is also a bonus steamer basket and protective pads put between the pans in your cabinet.
2 in 1 Enameled Cast Iron Double Dutch Oven & Skillet Lid, 5-Quart
Our pick
Today, enter the smooth relative of cast iron, enameled cast iron. Much like the classic edition, this style of cookware is incredibly sturdy and safe for the oven. The added bonus is that you don’t have to season because it’s much easier to wash. It works well for many of the same tasks as sealing or sautéing, but many versions—especially the dutch oven variety—can also be used for braising or slow cooking.
One of the best things is that enameled cast iron comes in a range of fun colours and is typically a healthy dishwasher (as opposed to regular old cast iron). Just bear in mind that, like anything enameled, it will chip if it falls (and look out for your toes because it’s really heavy). These guys are surely heritage items that will bear the test of time.
This Staub range has a special chip-resistant coating and contains a frying pan, a grill pan, and around cocotte (similar to a dutch oven) with a lid. It’s the best thing to eat family-style things like chili and cornbread.
Best Chef’s Pan: de Buyer French Mineral B Carbon Steel Cookware
Our pick
Professional chefs enjoy the use of carbon steel because of its outstanding results. The material operates on normal and induction cooktops and conducts heat easily and effectively. The cool thing about carbon steel is that it’s really a perfect combination of stainless steel and cast iron content.
Like cast iron, it is very nonstick, responds easily to heat shifts, and needs to be cleaned by hand and carefully seasoned. Carbon steel is similar to stainless steel in that it can be used to cook a range of items like eggs, beef, fruits, cake—you name it. It may often be more difficult to find and is mostly sold in pieces that are made for a very particular reason (like an omelet pan).
De Buyer is a favourite chef—they make their beeswax pans to guard against oxidation and last longer.
